Early Childhood & Discovery
Jnana Gururaj's musical journey began organically. Her father Gururaj β a professional playback singer with a profound singing experience of 20 years, based in Bangalore β and mother Rekha Kumari β a professional music teacher employed at Morarji Desai Residential School in Ramanagar β both recognized her extraordinary musical gift early. Her mother would bring the infant Jnana Gururaj to her music classes, where as a toddler she absorbed the songs being taught to the school students. Growing up immersed in her father's music at home, Jnana Gururaj naturally absorbed melodies and rhythms from the earliest age.
βListening to the music, she started singing those songs that I taught to the students at a very young age. After recognising her singing talent, I started to train her. I used to play the same song for at least four to five days and make her listen to it. After that, she used to sing perfectly along with background music.β
By the age of two years and six months (approximately early 2018), Jnana Gururaj had learned and could sing more than 20 songs with background music β a feat that earned her a coveted place in the India Book of Records.
Television Debut & World Record
Her public breakthrough came in 2018 when she appeared on Zee Kannada's celebrity variety programme Maja Talkies at approximately two years and nine months of age. She followed this with a landmark appearance on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs Season 16 (Zee Kannada) on 9 March 2019 β when she was just 3 years 5 months and 16 days old β setting the Golden Book of World Record for the Youngest Singer to Perform in a Television Reality Show.
Musical Training & Heritage
Trained primarily by her mother Rekha Kumari, Jnana Gururaj's Carnatic classical foundation is evident in her recorded songs including Ganesha Pancharatnam, Aigiri Nandini, and Harivarasanam. The family's roots in Dakshina Kannada (Puttur/Tulu Nadu region) are musically significant β this belt is known for Tulu folk music, Yakshagana, and Bhuta Kola traditions. Her early viral videos featured Tulu devotional songs (Koragajja), suggesting deep regional musical heritage alongside mainstream Kannada classical and film music.
Family & Support
Behind Jnana Gururaj's journey stands her father, Mr. Gururaj β a professional playback singer himself with over 20 years of experience, based in Bangalore β her greatest supporter and the family's steady pillar of strength. While her mother Rekha Kumari nurtured her musical training, it is her father who tirelessly provides for every requirement β from travel and rehearsals to recordings and stage performances β ensuring she has everything she needs to pursue her art.
Growing Career
By age five (2021), she had amassed over 112 medals and trophies from competitions. By age seven (2023), she was honoured by the Karnataka Achievers Book of Records (KABR) for her extraordinary achievements across 20+ recognised organisations. As of 2026, at age 10, she is an active recording and performing artist, collaborating primarily with musician Vijay Krishna D and releasing devotional, classical, and folk songs via labels including Vithalayya, V Music Tales, and Manorama Music. She has performed at the Pride of Karnataka Awards 2025 in Mysuru and continues to be booked for cultural events across Karnataka.
